The story begins with McClane traveling to Russia to meet with a old friend, Mathew Farrell (played by Justin Long), a young hacker who has gotten in over his head. When Gabriel and his crew hack into the United States' infrastructure, disabling critical systems and wreaking havoc on the country, McClane and Farrell must team up to take them down.
One of the standout sequences involves McClane and Farrell taking on Gabriel's henchmen in a high-speed chase through Moscow. The scene features impressive driving skills, precision stunt work, and a healthy dose of humor.
